May 31, 1930 — September 30, 2020

Paul V. Gaughan, 90, of Pottstown, and formerly of New Cumberland, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at Manatawny Manor, Pottstown. Son of the late Paul and Mary (Miller) Gaughan, he was born on May 31, 1930 in Scranton.

Though he was born in Northeastern Pennsylvania, Paul would find himself in Philadelphia as a young man, attending school and graduating from Girard College (Class of 1948). Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Army, where he served his country during the Korean War. Paul then went back to school, earning a degree from the University of Scranton (Class of 1959). His business sense and desire to stay active in the community were evident throughout his life; he was past-VP of Tempnet Association, founder and President of the PA Association of Temp Services, President of the PA Association of Personnel Services, past-president and longtime member of the Girard College Alumni Association, and a former owner of the Scranton Miners basketball team (within the Eastern Professional Basketball League). He was also past owner of Ballina Enterprises, a venture that would unite his Irish heritage with his passion for traveling; this agency provided guided tours of Ireland. Paul was a Phillies Caravan Supporter, a member of the West Shore Chamber of Commerce, and he belonged to the American Legion, Posts 320 (Philadelphia) and 143 (New Cumberland). His first wife, and the mother of his children, Naomi (Williams) Gaughan, passed away in 1995. He was blessed to find another caring and supportive woman with whom he could share his love. He and his second wife, Ann, would relocate to Pottstown, where they lived for the remainder of their 20 years together.

In addition to his wife of 20 years, Ann (McDonnell) Gaughan, he is survived by his children; Paul V. Gaughan III of Mechanicsburg, Kevin J. Gaughan of Reston, VA, Timothy W. Gaughan of Overland Park, KS, and Brian J. Gaughan of Mechanicsburg; stepdaughter, Margaret “Peggy” Gmuca of Phoenixville; siblings, Dr. Girard P. Gaughan of Palmyra, and Ann Bunnell of Scranton; nine grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. In addition to his parents, and first wife, Naomi (Williams) Gaughan, Paul was preceded in death by a stepson, Paul Gmuca of Wilmington, DE.
