Peggy Ann Maxwell

Peggy Ann Maxwell, 69, of Newville, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2025, at UPMC Carlisle Hospital, South Middleton Township. She was the daughter of the late Buford and Mary (Halfpapp) O’Neal, born on May 3, 1955, in Harrisburg.

Born and raised in Yocumtown, she would attend Red Land High School before working in several professional capacities over the years. Peggy was owner/operator of her own cleaning business, office manager for Arnold Logistics, a bartender for a stretch of time, and a CNA at a local nursing home. Whenever she did something, Peggy always gave 110%.

She and her husband, John, were married for 38 years, and he would tell you that meeting Peggy was the best thing that ever happened to him. Peggy was typically on the move and knew how to get things done, but she also appreciated the world around her and particularly loved the water. She was an avid reader of the Bible and a woman of faith, with her Christian qualities on display in all aspects of life. Peggy also had an affinity for Pomeranians, leaving behind her faithful four-legged companions, Cody and Nick. She had a tender heart, and her kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Her comforting presence will be missed.

Surviving Peggy is her husband of 38 years, John Maxwell; a son, Ryan Umphred of Newville; daughter, Christine Maxwell of Enola; grandson, Aiden; granddaughter, Tia; and siblings, Arthur “Arch” O’Neal, and Judy O’Neal. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three siblings, Robert, Kenneth and Arlene.

A public funeral will be held at 3PM on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland, with a viewing taking place from 2PM until services begin in the funeral home.

Parthemore Funeral Home is honored to help with Peggy’s final wishes, as her cleaning services were utilized by the funeral home in the 1970s.
