Peter Blair Weeks

May 8, 1935 — June 20, 2018

Peter Blair Weeks, 83, of New Cumberland, Pa., passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Geisinger Holy Spirit Hospital. Born May 8, 1935, in Oak Park, Ill., he is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Dorothy (Blair) Weeks and by his son David Blair Weeks.

Peter graduated Cornell University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He married his former wife Marilyn Jean Karlson while beginning his career with Reynolds Aluminum in 1959. Together they had three children.

Later, Peter moved to Ohio as Plant Manager of Reynold’s Ashville Extrusion Plant. It was during this time that he met his current wife, Carolyn Vensel, née Coyne, and they married in 1991.

After retiring from Reynolds in 1989, he moved to New Cumberland and became president of Pennex Aluminum Company, Wellsville, Pa. Over the next ten years, he oversaw its major expansion, adding a second extrusion line and implementing a vertical casting operation.

Peter developed his love for sailing as a Sea Scout, achieving the Quartermaster Award. With his wife Carolyn, he fulfilled his dream of sailing extensively after his retirement. Living aboard their boat Principia, Peter and Carolyn sailed the Eastern Seaboard, both coasts of Florida, the Bahamas, Mexico and Belize. They enjoyed many good times with family and friends sailing throughout the Chesapeake Bay.

Peter was a faithful Chicago Cubs fan, attending the 1945 World Series and was thrilled when they won in 2016. He was a student of history, a fixer of anything mechanical and a mentor to many.

Peter survived by his wife, Carolyn; children Karen Weeks Castorina, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Robert Weeks, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; sister Judy (Bill) Hoover, Bangor, Mich.; step children Christopher (Linda) Vensel, Carmel, Ind., Laura Vensel, Tampa, Fla., Patrick (Amy) Vensel, Johnstown, Ohio; and seven grandchildren: Caitlyn (Christophe) Duplessis, Briana Vensel Malagreca, Jessica Vensel Malagreca, Maria Vensel Malagreca, Alexandra Vensel, William Vensel and Greyson Vensel.
