Phyllis Ann (Jacobs) Till, 88, formerly of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loved ones on February 4, 2018 at Our Lady of Peace in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Phyllis was a self-made woman with a curious and intelligent nature who worked hard throughout her life. She traveled extensively with her husband of 63 years, exploring and having many different adventures from dog-sledding in Jackson Hole, Wyoming to witnessing the making of history in Beijing, China.
Phyllis and her husband, Jack, started a small electronic parts manufacturing company, JML Enterprises, in 1972, where she served as the General Manager. During the course of the 35 years they were in business, their hard work expanded their business, allowing them to not only travel, but to send three daughters through college.
While Phyllis was a successful businesswoman, her greatest achievement was taking care of her family. Raising their three daughters and having a loving family was the central theme of her life. Phyllis created a family life that was fun and adventurous, with many family vacations that are now cherished memories. She was able to make a fun atmosphere out of simple things and always made room at the dinner table for a friend. Phyllis was an independent thinker with a strong moral compass, traits that she instilled in her children and grandchildren. She even advocated with a concerned citizens group against the construction of the nuclear power plant, Three Mile Island.
Born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Beatrice Barnhart and Nevin Jacobs in 1929, Phyllis graduated from John Harris High School. She married “Jack” Till in January 1955 and together they had four children: John, Lynne, Mary K., and Jennifer. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her son, John; her parents, Beatrice Jacobs and Nevin Jacobs; her sister, Betty; and her brother, Edward.
Phyllis is survived by her three daughters: Lynne Tucker of Palm Harbor, Florida, Mary K. Till of Riegelsville, Pennsylvania, and Jennifer Till of Charlottesville, Virginia; and her four grandchildren: Ryan Tucker of Seattle, Washington; Chris Till of Charlottesville, Virginia; and Katie and Sarah Gombold of Riegelsville, Pennsylvania.
The viewing will be held Saturday at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland, Pa. from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Rolling Green Cemetery, 1811 Carlisle Road, Camp Hill.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are respectfully requested to be made in Mrs. Till’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memorials Processing, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 or www.stjude.org.
