R. "Bill" William Hain, 85, of Mechanicsburg, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017, at Penn State Health, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Derry Twp. He had been transported to the medical center after collapsing while snow blowing the neighborhood sidewalks and driveways.
He retired as a lineman from the former United Telephone, Carlisle, and also as a farmer in Newville; a Navy Korean War Veteran; 1950 graduate of the former New Cumberland High School; a member of the National Horseshoe Pitching Assn., New Cumberland, and the N.R.A. Born on August 30, 1931, in Everett, he was the son of the late Earl A. and Elizabeth J. (Moser) Hain. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Betty (Stunkard) Hain; three daughters, Lori D. Propst (Ronald) of State College, Elizabeth A. Meranto (Sal) of Scottsdale, AZ, and Karen L. Speight (Sandy) of Scottsdale, AZ; three sisters, Arlene Bowman of Mechanicsburg, Sandy Achenbach of Perry County, and Marilyn Gettys of New Cumberland; seven grandchildren and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by son, Rick E. Hain, and a brother, Earl Hain.
Grave side services will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday at Rolling Green Memorial Park, Lower Allen Twp., with the Rev. Carl Ford Peterson officiating.
