Rafé Grove Shearer

Rafé Grove Shearer of Mechanicsburg passed away at Temple University Hospital on March 26, 2020, at the age of 50, following a long and courageous battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Rafé is survived by Craig, her loving husband of 23 years, and her amazing sons Max and Sam. Rafé is remembered by her parents, Jack and Shirley Grove of Mechanicsburg, and her parents-in-law, Ralph and Nancy Shearer of Etters. Her tribe of sisters include Gina (husband Jim McCurdy) of Elizabethtown, Michelle (husband Brian Dombach) of Lancaster, Nicole Brubaker of Hummelstown, and cousin (honorary sister) Tara (husband Damian Savarino) of Mechanicsburg. Her sisters and brother-in-law include Wanda Pitt of Lancaster, Carole (husband Jack Shaffer) of Mt. Wolf, and Mark (wife Robin Shearer) of York. She was surrounded by many aunts , uncles and cousins who helped love and support her and her family. “Aunt Rah” was loved fiercely by her many nieces and nephews.

She grew up in Elizabethtown, PA and graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1987. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Albright College in Reading, PA, and a Master of Education in Counseling Psychology from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA. Rafé worked as an Elementary School Counselor in the Mechanicsburg Area School District for ten years before deciding to stay home to raise her two sons. Most recently, she worked as a part-time case manager for Family Promise of the Harrisburg Capital Region.

Rafé was an active member of Camp Hill United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading and journaling, and going hiking, fishing and camping with her boys. She loved spending time with her extended family on weekend camping trips, beach adventures in Ocean City, NJ, and day trips to Hersheypark and Knoebels. Being with Craig, Max and Sam was her greatest love.

Due to concerns regarding COVID-19, the family will have a private service where she will be interned at the columbarium at Camp Hill United Methodist. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a future date.
