Ray Hinson, 92, of New Cumberland, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016 in Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle.
He was retired from the former New Cumberland Army Depot (DDSP), Fairview Twp. and was a decorated WWII Army veteran earning a Purple Heart after being shot in Germany, three Bronze Stars and the WWII Victory Medal. In addition to Germany, he fought and served in Normandy France, Central Europe, and the Battle of the Bulge. Ray enjoyed traveling and reading; was a very active congregation member of Community United Methodist Church, New Cumberland; and was a member of American Legion Post 143, New Cumberland.
Ray was born in Casscoe, AK to the late Alfred F. and Myrtle S. (Appleby) Hinson, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was the widower of Helen L. (Conrad) Hinson and was preceded in death by his brother Alfred F. Hinson, Jr.
He is survived by a son Robert S. Hinson of Arlington, VA; a daughter Diane M. Reed and husband Rev. David Reed of Carlisle; a sister Melba S. Rabeneck of Stuttgart, AR; and two grandchildren, Heather Reed Singiser and Philip Reed.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday, June 13, 2016 in Community United Methodist Church, 16th & Bridge Sts. New Cumberland, PA 17070 with the Rev. Marcy Nicholas, his pastor officiating. Viewing will be from 10:30 – 11 am Monday in the church. Burial with Military Honors will be in Rolling Green Cemetery, Lower Allen Twp.
