On September 30, 2016 Raymond Walter Britcher left this mortal realm with its earthly cares for what lies beyond. He was baptized as a Lutheran, and though not a church member, accepted Jesus Christ as his savior in 1967. His mother was Geraldine Janet Guhl Britcher and he was the posthumous son of Ernest Frank Britcher. His uncle, Dale Thane Guhl contributed much to his upbringing and instilled in him a love of reading, poetry and history.
He was a lifelong resident of New Cumberland; a graduate of Cedar Cliff High School and Harrisburg Area Community College; past president of both the Harrisburg Section of the American Society of Highway Engineers and the Central Pennsylvania Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers; guide book editor and leader of the 1993 Harrisburg Area Geologic Society field trip; a licensed Professional Engineer; involved with the publication of “The Peoples Bridge” (a history of the Walnut Street Bridge); and a member and officer of AFSCME Locals 2608 and 2456.
In 1967 he was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Highways as an Engineering Assistant and retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as a Civil Engineer in 2002. He worked for Engineering District 8-0 in the Construction, Plans, Bridge and Liaison Units. He considered being a civil servant as a way of expressing his love for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the United States of American.
An eternal bachelor, he is survived by his brother Kenneth Paul Britcher, Sr. and wife Kimberlie of Columbia, PA and several nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
