Richard H. Bennie, 98, of York Haven, previously of Camp Hill died Sunday, January 17, 2016 at his son’s home.
A US Marine Corps Veteran of WWII, he was a retired engineer from the former Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania. Valedictorian of the 1936 Pottsville High School Class, he was a member of the Lewisberry Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Marine Corps League, Little Flower Club at St. Theresa Parish, New Cumberland, and a charter member of El Shaddai Singing Group.
He was born March 17, 1917 in New Brighton to the late Alexander and Fourteenia Edith (Lee) Bennie. He was the widower of Thelma E. (Hoffman) Bennie and also preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
He is survived by a daughter, Beverlee I. Baird of Leola; three sons, Ronald L. of York Haven, Richard K. of Hunterstown, NC, and Rhett A. of Camp Hill; thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 9:30 until funeral services at 11am Friday at the Meeting House, 800 Pleasant Drive, York Haven, PA 17370. Entombment will follow in Rolling Green Cemetery, Lower Allen Twp.
