Richard Joseph Tamanosky, 81, of Camp Hill, PA passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 10, 2022 surrounded by his family at Penn State Holy Spirit Medical Center. He was born on November 17, 1940 in Pottsville, PA, to the late Victor J. and Elsie R. (Zinn) Tamanosky.
Known as “Tam” or “Rich” or "Dick" to those closest to him, Richard was a 1959 graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School, Harrisburg, PA, and he went on to work at both Harrisburg Steel and later PA Steel Company, Steelton, before starting a career with the Commonwealth of PA. He retired after 32 years of employment, working primarily with the PA Liquor Control Board at both storefront and warehouse locations. Richard was secure in his Catholic faith, and he was a member for many years at the VFW, Post 7530 – Mechanicsburg. He played football in high school, boxed in his youth and continued lifting weights throughout his lifetime. He was an avid sports fan, and he also enjoyed hunting and fishing – an interest he would pass to his children and grandchildren. He was a caring and supportive father to his children and a loving husband to his best friend, Diane. Tam coached and supported his children in all their athletic endeavors (childhood through collegiate careers), and he was active with the boosters. He regularly cooked meals for the family, and nothing brought him happiness like family get-togethers. You could practically feel him beaming with pride when the whole brood was in one place. Buster and Ranger were his two canine companions, and he had a special bond with Theodore the guinea pig. Richard had a heck of a voice. Singing and dancing were gifts he would employ all his life. Even when battling COPD and other health issues, he remained positive and a source of laughter for his family. When asked, “are you all right?” his classic response was “no, I’m half left.” His family takes comfort in knowing that he really is all right now – free from any further pain or suffering. He will be deeply missed.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 29 years, Diane E. Tamanosky; children, Amy-Jo M. Tamanosky of Crofton, MD, Richard Tamanosky II, Nikki M. Tamanosky of Shippensburg, and Matthew W. Tamanosky; grandchildren, Haley, Ricky, Travis, Beth and Blake; a sister, Vicki Koeppe; a daughter-in-law, Laura Tamanosky; a mother-in-law, Betty Hazzard; and nieces and nephews, Michelle “Mick,” Laurel, Mandy, Joey, Jarrod and Jimmy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, JoAnn Scicchitano; and daughter-in-law, Christine L. Tamanosky.
