Richard L. Cadiz

April 16, 1927 — February 8, 2014

Richard Cadiz of New Cumberland, Fairview Township, died at home on February 8, 2014, at the age of 86.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Margaret I. (Keller) Snyder and Charles Huger Cadiz, and by his wife of 57 years, 86 days and 4 hours, Meredith Lee (Allfree) Cadiz.
Richard is survived by his son, Douglas R. Cadiz (Dana) of CT, their daughters Lauren and Meredith (Brian Roche), and two great-grandchildren. Richard is also survived by his daughter, Lee M. Weber of Fairview Township, her children, Erik and Kirsten (Steven Yurich), and three great-grandchildren.
Richard’s quality and quantity of life, during the last ten years, was enriched by the loving and caring relationship he shared with his many friends. Richard was born in Harrisburg and attended William Penn High School. A member of “America’s Greatest Generation”, Richard enlisted in the Navy and served in the South Pacific, during WW II. After the war, Richard returned home and worked as a builder of “fancy” cutting dies with Progressive Service Company, a Harrisburg shoe die-making firm. Richard retired in 1991 from Progressive Service Die Company, as co-owner and vice president of manufacturing at the Harrisburg plant. He had 44 years of service with the company. Richard, a self-taught craftsman built his own home. He loved to travel across the U.S with his wife Meredith. Together they were ardent Penn State football fans and season ticket holders and attended many games home and away. Richard was an avid cook and enjoyed sharing his Crab Imperial with friends and neighbors. He was an avid reader, golfer, and card player. He enjoyed pinochle, Texas holdem, blackjack and casino card games in the greater Harrisburg area, Atlantic City casinos and Foxwoods casino, CT. Richard was a lover of the woods and the wildlife it supported. He enjoyed feeding and observing his animal friends at his home. Richard had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed socializing with friends at VFW posts 7530 Lower Allen, 7415 New Cumberland, and American Legion post 974 Fairview Twp. Richard will be forever loved, remembered and missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will be at 10am on Friday, February 14th followed by funeral services at 11am at Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland. Interment will be immediately following at Rolling Green Memorial Park, Lower Allen Twp.
In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation to your favorite charity, in memory of Richard and Meredith Cadiz.
