Richard L. "Dick" Coakley

Richard L. “Dick” Coakley, 86, of The Villages, FL and formerly of Camp Hill, PA, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, August 1, 2019 in Ocala Regional Medical Center, Ocala, FL.

He was the retired owner/operator of Coakley’s Restaurant, New Cumberland, PA for 38 years and was a tireless cornerstone of economic and community development efforts in downtown New Cumberland. Prior to that he was the owner/operator of the Village Deli, Lemoyne and held numerous executive sales and marketing positions with Knouse Foods, Specialty Bakery, Sealtest Foods, Emery Air Freight, U.S. Plywood, and G.C. Murphy. In addition, he owned and managed numerous commercial and residential investment properties for many years.

Dick was a member of Christian Life Assembly, Camp Hill, PA and an avid artist. Dick was also a member of Eureka-West Shore Lodge #302 F&AM, Mechanicsburg, Harrisburg Consistory, a 50 year member of Zembo Shrine, Harrisburg, PA, a founding member of the New Cumberland Olde Towne Association, and active with many other associations.

Dick was a go-getter in everything he did and lived a very full life of accomplishment and compassion. He had a heart of gold and would help anybody, especially people who may have fallen on hard times or suffered a crisis. He loved his cars, loved to travel, loved his friends and restaurant customers, loved to work, and most of all, loved his family and spending time with them.

Dick was born in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Gerald J. and Ruth (Heller) Coakley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Patricia Sullivan.
He is survived by his loving wife of more than 65 years, Susan L. (Porter) Coakley; his son Mark Coakley (Anita) of Camp Hill; his daughter Susan Sorrells (Ron) of Jacksonville, FL; his brother Timothy Coakley (Rhoda) of Roswell, NM; two grandchildren, Benjamin Coakley of Houston, TX and Marissa Coakley of Camp Hill; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 Noon beginning with a Masonic service on Thursday August 8th at Parthemore Funeral Home, 1303 Bridge St., New Cumberland, PA 17070 with Pastor Paul Wislocky officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 am at Parthemore Funeral Home. Entombment will be in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill.
