MGySgt Richard R. (Sully) Sullivan, USMC, Ret., 81, of Enola, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 18, 2017.
He was a retired Master Gunnery Sergeant with the United States Marine Corps serving during both the Korean War and the Vietnam War and later retired again from the Navy Ships Parts Control Center, Hampden Twp.
He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Enola; Knights of Columbus Council 8077, Tucson, AZ; BPO Elks West Shore Lodge 2257, Camp Hill; American Legion Post 751, Enola; and VFW Post 6704, Mechanicsburg.
Sully was a proud Marine who had a wonderful sense of humor, was extremely generous, and was liked by all who knew him. His greatest love in life was his family, especially his grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as “Sarge”.
Sully was born in Springfield, MA to the late Richard and Jennie (Sopet) Sullivan, was the widower of Rosemary (Petrullo) Sullivan and was also preceded in death by his first wife Elizabeth (Deluliis) Sullivan.
He is survived by his sons, Mark E. Sullivan and wife Joan of Churchton, MD and Scott E. Sullivan and wife Maria of Canandaigua, NY; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Saturday, April 22, 2017 in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 255 Salt Rd. Enola, PA 17025 with the Rev. Michael J. Grab as Celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Burial with military honors will be in Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Romulus, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions in Sully’s name to the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 50, 4219 Trindle Road Camp Hill, PA 17011.
