Richard Franklin Snyder, 96, of Camp Hill, formerly from Catasauqua, PA, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2025, while living at the Woods at Cedar Run. Dick was the son of the late William A. and Susan (Klimek) Snyder, born on July 7, 1928, in Egypt, PA.
Richard was a 1945 graduate of Whitehall High School and would go on to serve his country in the U.S. Army where he spent time in Germany shortly after WWII.
He was married for 72 years to the love of his life Gizella who passed away last year and was a great father to their four kids.
Dick was employed at Western Electric in Allentown, PA, where he worked as a layout operator for 40 years. He also worked part-time at Nestor’s Sporting Goods in Whitehall for a number of years.
He loved the outdoors. Family vacations were spent camping in the White Mountains of New Hampshire along with trips to Maine and the western US. Many weekends were spent camping at Promised Land State Park in the Poconos. Dick was an avid hiker and hiked all of the Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania along with several hundred miles in other states. He was a member of the Allentown Hiking Club and maintained a ten-mile stretch of the trail along the Blue Mountain, north of Allentown. Besides hiking, Dick enjoyed hunting with his son and grandsons in Lycoming County. Many days were also spent fishing and ice fishing in the Poconos.
Richard was a long-time member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Whitehall, PA. He was a very quiet man but smiled easily. People still comment on his great smile.
Surviving Richard are his children, Judith B. Balliet (Kenneth) of Turbotville, Glenn R. Snyder (Diana) of Mechanicsburg, Dale R. Snyder (Jayne) of Crossville, TN, and Ramona L. Sweeney of Easton. He has nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A committal service will be held at 11AM on Monday, April 14, 2025, at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
