Rick A. Porr, 74, of New Cumberland died Thursday, September 16, 2021 at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital.
He was born December 23, 1946 in Harrisburg to the late Irvin H. and Betty (Fry) Porr.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Karen W. Porr; sister Justina deChamplain (Paul) of New Cumberland; sister-in-law Tina Landis of Hampstead, NC; rent-a-child Jessica Jones Wilson (Scott) of Mechanicsburg; rent-a-child Allison Freeman (Matt) of Mechanicsburg; rent-a-grandchildren, Alexander Jones, and Griffin and Trent Freeman; lifelong friends Carolyn and Mike Jones, New Cumberland; several nieces and nephews; many friends that are like family; his dog Spence and cat Moon Kitty. He is predeceased by his brothers Edward and Donald Porr.
Rick served in the United States Army.
Rick retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, but he was known for his long hobby of breeding, showing and judging poultry. His hobby allowed him and Karen to see the United States, Canada and Bermuda and create friendships nationally and internationally. As a judge he held General Licenses from both the American Poultry Association and the American Bantam Association. Rick served as the Co-Show Secretary of the York County Poultry Fanciers show for over 10 years and Co-Show Secretary of the Crested Bantam Club show for over 15 years. He also served as a District Representative of the American Bantam Association, President of the Crested Bantam Club and President of the Crested Fowl Fanciers Association. Rick held lifetime memberships in both the American Poultry Association and the American Bantam Association. He was a Master Breeder of White Crested Black and Bearded White Polish Bantams. Rick took great pride in his numerous Best of Breed, Best of Class and Best of Show trophies for various breeds of exhibition bantam poultry.
In addition, Rick enjoyed his vegetable garden and growing dahlias. He loved sharing the bounty with neighbors and friends.
Visitation will be from 10 am until funeral services at 11 am Friday, September 24, 2021 at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland, PA. Interment with military honors will be held at 10 am on Monday, September 27, 2021 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Hanover Twp., PA.
