Robert C. "Buck" O'Neal

January 26, 1928 — October 2, 2021

Robert C. “Buck” O’Neal, 93, of Harrisburg, passed away on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at UPMC Community Osteopathic, Harrisburg. He was the son of the late Roy and Amy (Putt) O’Neal, born on January 26, 1928 in Harrisburg.

Buck was a graduate of the former New Cumberland High School, and he went on to F&M College, where he played a year of collegiate football. His schooling was interrupted when he spent two years in the U.S. Army. He was an unemployment compensation advisor, working his way up through Heiss-Gibbons & Company, Harrisburg, ultimately becoming partner and co-owner. He was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, New Cumberland. A genuine individual and true people person, Buck loved life and enjoyed helping others. He was active with Goodwill; he was their spokesman for some time, always holding the attention of his audience with his quick wit and smooth delivery. He was a Perdue football fan, a golf enthusiast and a jazz fanatic. He was athletic and enjoyed sports in his youth, and he kept his mind sharp with crossword puzzles. Traveling was a big part of his life, and he tried to learn as much as he could about each and every place he would visit.

Surviving Buck is his wife of 30 years, Sandra L. (Miscevich) O’Neal; his two sons, Scott Robert O’Neal of Fairview Twp. and Jeff Michael O’Neal of Newberrytown; and a step-son, Tony Julian (Annette) of Lower Paxton Twp. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Shine and Beryl Lyden; and his first wife, Florence Hall.

Services will be held at a future date yet to be determined. Please continue to monitor Buck’s obituary page for updated service information.
