Robert P. Hempt

Robert P. Hempt, Jr., 86, of New Cumberland died Friday, February 6, 2015 at Holy Spirit Hospital.
A Navy Veteran of the Korean War, he was a retired LTCDR from the US Naval Reserves. He also worked as a Claims Representative for the former Kemper Insurance, Camp Hill. A 1946 graduate of the former New Cumberland High School, and 1950 graduate of US Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, he was a life member of St. Theresa Parish, New Cumberland and its Knights of Columbus, Council 8927, American Legion Post 143, Capital City Polka Dancers Assn., Mechanicsburg Club, PA Sports Hall of Fame, West Shore Chapter, Chartier Club, Commissioned Officer’s Mess, VFW Post 7415, Military Officers Assn. of America, New Cumberland Olde Towne Association. He was a former member of New Cumberland Borough Council, New Cumberland Olde Towne Foundation, and was a former PIAA and ASA Official.
He was born June 29, 1928 in Harrisburg to the late Robert P. and Mary C. (Schindler) Hempt, Sr.
He is survived by son, Robert P., III (Janice) of York Haven; daughter, Lynne L. Szollosy (Stephen) of Fairview Twp.; six grandchildren, Corinne, Julie, Erin, Michael, Katie, and Megan and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son, Michael A. and brother, Clarence O. Hempt.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am Thursday at St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland. Private interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
Viewing will be from 5 to 7pm Wednesday at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland.
