Robert R. “Doc” Tompkins, MD, 81 of Fairview Twp, died Tuesday, December 7, 2016 at his residence.
He was certified by the American Board of Dermatology. He received his undergraduate degree from Dickinson College, Carlisle; MD Degree from Temple Medical School,
Philadelphia; and served his internship and residency at Polyclinic Medical Center, Harrisburg and Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, MI. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and Navy during the Gulf War. Most recently he served as Chief of Dermatology at CTVHCS (Central Texas VA Health Care System); US Naval Hospital, Rota, Spain; and was known for his Private Practice The Dermatology Center in Camp Hill, Pa.
He enjoyed traveling and was an avid sports fan.
He was born April 22, 1935 in Altoona to the late Roy F. and Marion Emily (Lee) Tompkins, MD.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine C. Tompkins; two sons, William B. Carter (Cecilia) of Highspire, and Robert M. Carter of Etters; a daughter, Stacy K. Carter (Bob) of Etters; a brother, Forrest G. Tompkins of Knoxville, TN; sister, Sandra L. Tompkins of Madisonville, TN; three nieces; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
Interment services, with military honors, will be held at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Hanover Twp.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans, 4219 E Trindle Rd, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
