Roger W. Sieber

Roger W. Sieber, of Camp Hill, PA, passed away peacefully at age 84, on November 20, 2023, at the Camp Hill Rehabilitation Center in Camp Hill, PA. He was born on December 7, 1938, in Fayette Township, Juniata County, PA. Roger was the youngest of four children, and was a very friendly and outgoing gentleman, well known for his vocal gifts and his mathematical knowledge and skills.

Roger attended East Juniata High School, Cocolamus, graduating with the Class of 1965. He furthered his education at The Pennsylvania State University, Harrisburg, and Harrisburg Area Community College. He pursued his career as a supervisor in the Pennsylvania Department of Mines and Minerals, and also with the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, later working for Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.

Roger found life-long friendships and community, and shared his faith as a 50+ year member of Pine Street Presbyterian Church in Harrisburg, PA. Roger said he learned how to sing by listening to Frank Sinatra. He actively participated as a tenor vocalist with the Chancel Choir for 50+ years. He was also a member of the Harrisburg Choral Society for over 35 years, serving as their Board President for several years. He also shared his extensive musical talents with the Central PA Oratorial Society, The Wednesday Club, and formerly participated in the Civic Opera, The Carolers, The Camerata Singers and The Peace Church Chorale.

Roger's love for music extended beyond his involvement in choirs. He and his wife, Barbara, married in June of 1966, and they sang together in many operas, musicals, and many private venues throughout the greater Harrisburg area. Their beautiful voices, wonderful music, and laughter will be greatly missed by their friends and family.

Together they also collected 500 books, many of them rare and unique books, spanning a wide variety of topics and interests, from world history to the Renaissance, to philosopher Epictetus, and he loved Pogo comics.  They also collected over 400 albums, and 200 musical scores. They were also proud supporters of various local musical organizations.

Roger is survived by his niece, Doris (Houdeshel) and her husband, Ed Watts, of McAlisterville, PA; his nephew, William (Will) and his wife, Tracey, Houdeshel, of McAlisterville, PA; Barbara's niece, Ann and her husband Joseph (Joe) Barone, of Highlands, North Carolina; and all of their families, and many friends at Pine Street and various other musical organizations and local churches.

He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 54 years, Barbara A. (Horton) Sieber, in March 2020, as well as his parents, Fredrick L. and Beatrice (Shirk) Sieber, his siblings, Fredrick A. Sieber, Elaine (Sieber) and her husband William (Bill) Houdeshel, and Paul L. Sieber, and other extended family members.
