Ronald Kirk Thomas

November 27, 1942 — November 2, 2018

Ronald Kirk Thomas, 75, of New Cumberland passed away peacefully on Friday, November 02, 2018. He was born November 27, 1942, in Harrisburg to the late Frank and Lois (Pepperman) Thomas.

Ronald was a graduate of Cedar Cliff High School in 1960 and earned his bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Economics at Penn State University. After graduating, Ronald took a management position at Deloitte Haskins & Sells as a Senior Auditor. He later joined the Thomas’ family’s business, Gables, Inc. of Harrisburg, PA and was promoted to President until its sale in 1984. Following the sale, Ronald transitioned to Johnson Whiteprint and then completed his career at Aegis Security, Inc. During his time at Aegis he served as a senior manager in various officer and director positions for over 30 years until his retirement in 2013.

Ronald was a lifetime resident of New Cumberland and later purchased his childhood home where he resided for the rest of his life.

Ronald had a love for boating and an affinity for being on the water. His passion began during his adolescence at the Harrisburg Seaplane Base on the Susquehanna River. Later, Ron and his wife purchased a vacation home in Stone Harbor, New Jersey which they have enjoyed and shared with family and friends for more than 40 years. During his tenure at Aegis he also enjoyed spending the winter months on the water in the Florida Keys.

Ronald also had a lifetime hobby in model railroading. He spent his leisure time transforming the basement into custom miniature villages, tunnels and landscapes which accentuated his detailed train layouts. His creativity provided many years of wonder and amazement for both his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Elizabeth (Kildea) Thomas; son Craig and his wife Tina of Abington, PA; daughter, Ann E. of Wormleysburg; two brothers, Gregory and his wife Linda of Fort Wayne, IN and Jeffrey and his wife Susan of Collierville, TN; two grandchildren, Abby, Matthew and several nieces and nephews.
