Ronald L. Brougher, 78, of York Haven, died on March 3, 2015 at Manor Care, Camp Hill, from complications of Parkinson’s disease. At his side were his wife of 58 years, Diane, his daughter Beth and her partner Terri McEntee, and his son Farron, who lives in Anaheim, CA with his wife, Tracey Tomashpol.
Ronald was born on March 15, 1936 in Lemoyne. He was the son of Orpha R. Brougher, wife of Lester L. Brougher. Ronald graduated from New Cumberland High School as the valedictorian of the class of 1954, with a four year average grade of 98.
Robert Hobaugh, Ronald’s maternal uncle, employed him as a house painter after graduation. He was later employed as a supervisor in the New Cumberland office of the California Test Bureau. He worked as a dispatcher in long haul trucking for Roadway Express and Transcon Lines. Ronald and his wife owned and operated a home-based business, Replitiques, which made reproduction Colonial furniture and accessories for sale at craft fairs and online.
Ronald and his father and lifelong friend Jack Morton built model airplanes and sometimes flew them on the runways of the Harrisburg-York State Airport. Ronald and Jack were also partners in a variety of amateur pyrotechnic experiments, some done far from the eyes of the law.
Along with his wife-to-be, Ronald performed tabletop and sleight of hand magic.
Ronald and Diane began ballroom dancing in their teens, and performed on Ron Drake’s “TV Teen Time” program. They were employed at the Hotel Hershey as performers and instructors in ballroom dance and disco.
Like his father, Ronald was skilled in home electronics, having been both self-taught and trained through a certificate program offered by DeVry Technical Institute. Ronald also was an accomplished photographer who mastered both black and white and color darkroom photography, printing enlargements in a basement darkroom that he designed and built. He passed this passion on to his son, who was fortunate enough to enjoy his dad’s advice and constructive criticism for 45 years
The family invites their friends to join them in a celebration of Ronald’s life at Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1303 Bridge St., New Cumberland, on Monday, March 9, 2015, from 5:00-6:30 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Nobody’s Cats Foundation, 3909 Hartzdale Drive, Suite 905, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
It has been a great life! Leave with a smile.
