Rosalie I. Koehler, who combined a career in elementary education with volunteer work for several organizations, died Monday, Feb. 20, at her home in Bethany Village in Mechanicsburg, surrounded by her loving family.
Rosalie, 84, was born in Clearfield, the daughter of the late Frank and Irene (Beauseigneur) Buck, and was a graduate of Clearfield High School. She graduated from Lock Haven University in 1954.
She and her late husband, Lt. Col. William Conrad Koehler Sr., USAF Ret., raised their family in Wormleysburg, and were world travelers. In addition to the 50 states, they visited Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, Okinawa and several European countries.
They were longtime members of the Church of the Good Shepherd.
Rosalie loved children and they loved her lively sense of humor. She taught elementary school in the East Pennsboro School District (PA) for 33 years. Outside the classroom, she was a volunteer for Soroptimist International of the West Shore for more than 20 years. She also volunteered at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, where she was involved in the “I’m in Charge of Me” children’s health program, and for many years she spent Election Day as a poll worker in Wormleysburg.
Rosalie is survived by her children, William C. Koehler, Jr. and wife Barbara of New Albany, IN; Michael V. Koehler and wife Sharon of Carlisle, PA; and L. Renee Jackson and husband Peter of Etters, PA; seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, February 24, 2017, in Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to services in the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Rolling Green Cemetery immediately following the funeral home service.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions in Rosalie’s memory to Soroptimist International of the West Shore, P.O. Box 431 New Cumberland, PA 17070.
