Rupert F. Hess, 91, of Mechanicsburg and formerly of BelAir, MD, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017 in The Meadows at West Shore, East Pennsboro Twp.
He was a retired data processing manager with the Commonwealth of PA, Department of Health, Harrisburg and a decorated U.S. Army veteran of WWII. Additionally, he was Past Post Commander of American Legion Post 43, Camp Hill.
Mr. Hess was born in Baltimore, MD to the late Rupert and Elizabeth (Steinberger) Hess. In addition to his parents, he was the widower of Agnes I. (Ingram) Hess and was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, Roman and Albert and a sister Hilda Markey.
He is survived by his children, Gregory R. Hess and wife Toinette “Toni” of Mechanicsburg and Janice E. Muza and husband Robert of Dillsburg; a sister Elizabeth White of Upper Marlboro, MD; three granddaughters, Kathryn Megonelli, Kimberly Berrell and Megan Hess; four great grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, June 30, 2017 in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Twp., Lebanon County, PA. There will be no viewing or visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions in Mr. Hess’s memory to American Legion Post 43, 2145 Walnut St. Camp Hill, PA 17011.
