Ruth J. Pogue

December 5, 1933 — March 3, 2015

Ruth J. Pogue, 81, of New Cumberland died Tuesday, March 3, 2015 in the company of her family. She was born on December 5, 1933, in Paxtonia to the late Clarence and Grace (Campbell) Morton, and is survived by her husband Clifford G.; a son Clifford L. (Brenda) of Harrisburg; two daughters, Debra L. DeFiore and Denise R. Scarborough both of Harrisburg; a brother, Jack Morton of Harrisburg; a sister, Barbara Foster of New Bloomfield; four grandchildren, Laura Yates, Kaitlyn Pogue, Justin and Kyle Scarborough; and two great-grandsons, Kalen and Ty Yates.

Ruth attended Lower Paxton High School (Class of 1951), where she participated in sports and cheerleading activities. She worked in various retail sales positions prior to and after raising her children, with her longest tenure, of eight years, served as the manager of the record department at the G.C. Murphy store in the West Shore Plaza.

Ruth was originally a member of the MaClay Street Church of God in Harrisburg, but later transferred to the Charlton United Methodist Church after she moved with her family to West Hanover Township.

Ruth was well-known in her community for her semi-annual yard sales, and her extended family was very appreciative of her annual coordination of the Morton Family Reunion. Forever a Penn State fan, Ruth attended or watched their games on television every season, but she really enjoyed the warm summer months with frequent trips to New Jersey beaches, especially Brigantine Island.

A "Celebration of Life" ceremony will be held for invited guests in the near future at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to Homeland Hospice, 2300 Vartan Way, Suite 115, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
