Sara Jane (Janie) Fissel

Sara Jane (Janie) Fissel, 87, formerly of Dauphin, PA, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, with her son by her side at Thornwald Home, Carlisle.

Sara Jane was a homemaker most of her life until she decided driving a school bus would give her flexibility to spend time with her son and the students whom she loved. She was one of the first female school bus drivers for Central Dauphin School District. She was also a member of Clark's Valley Zion EC Church, Ladies Aide, Red Hat Society, the Garden Club of Middle Paxton Twp. and taught swimming at the Dauphin Pool.

Born on July 25, 1935, in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late Robert M. and Jennie (Baker) Meyers. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert B., and Donald R. Meyers. Her faith meant everything to her. She always said, “go while you can,” and boy did she do just that. Sara Jane enjoyed bus trips and most importantly loved her son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family, and friends who all filled her heart with joy. Keeping with tradition and right to the end, she always wanted to know how everybody was doing.

Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Charles D. Fissel, Sr.; son, Charles D. Fissel, Jr. (Mary Murphy) of Lewisberry; granddaughter and grandson, Rachael M. Fissel (fiancée’ Ben Edgar) and Benjamin R. Fissel.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 29 at Clark’s Valley Zion EC Church, Dauphin from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with memorial services at 11:00 AM with Pastor Mike Knapp officiating. Interment will follow immediately afterwards at the Dauphin Cemetery and then lunch at the church.

The family would like to thank the staff at Thornwald Home, Carlisle for their compassionate care of “Miss Sara” as the staff fondly called her.
