Sharon L. Smith, 69, of Middletown, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, Derry Twp. The daughter of the late William H. Smith III and Patricia L. (Kavanaugh) Smith, she was born on April 15, 1952 in Harrisburg.
Sharon grew up on the East Shore and graduated from John Harris High School, Harrisburg. She spent her working career with the Commonwealth, and from there she retired. She was a woman of faith, and she attended several churches on the East Shore, including First Church of the Brethren, Harrisburg. She gave her time and talents to others, knitting baby hats and blankets that she would donate to local hospitals. She worked at the Jay Smith Stand at Kline Village Market for a short period, and she was a dog and cat mom for most of her years. Sharon enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and attending gem and mineral shows, especially when her granddaughter would join. Spoiling her grandkids was common practice, and she had a great sense of humor. Her family meant the most to her, and her comfort level around them was something else – you could see it in the way she’d hoot, holler and dance at any family wedding or get together. Her big smile will be greatly missed.
Surviving Sharon is her granddaughter, Teagan A. Strickler of Harrisburg; two brothers, Steven A. Smith (Sally) of Harrisburg and James J. Smith of Wormleysburg; a sister, Judy A. Strickler (Stephen A.) of Elizabethtown; nephews, Douglas Vu, Spencer Vu and Leigh Smith; two aunts, Barbara N. Kiehl of Lemoyne and Donna L. Fasnacht of Grantville; and many great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Steffany Ida Carrie Heller; a brother, William Henry Smith IV; and a nephew, Steven A. Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 6PM on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. A visitation will be held the hour prior in the funeral home. A private interment will take place in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill.
