Shirlee V. (Palmer) Swope, 89, of Camp Hill, died on Monday, January 21, 2019 at the Gardens at Camp Hill. Daughter of the late Morrison and Myrtle (Smith) Palmer, she was born on January 13, 1930, in Altoona.
Shirlee worked as a secretary for Boise Cascade, a wood and paper company located in Bristol, PA. In her earlier years, she was active with the VFW Post 5542 – Terchon Post, Levittown, and she was quite an accomplished bowler. She lived in Florida for almost 30 years before moving back to Pennsylvania to be with her son and daughter-in-law. Shirlee made friends practically everywhere she went, including the Gardens at Camp Hill, where she spent her final years.
She is survived by her son, Brett Shugar (wife, Stacy) of Camp Hill; her step-children, Jim Swope (wife, Tina) of Levittown, and Judy Potter (husband, Bob) of Levittown; grandchildren, Derek Shugar (wife, Ashley), Miles Shugar (wife, Sara Zimmet), and Brett Nelson Shugar; and three great-grandchildren, Owen, Gwen and Oscar. She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Swope; a stepson, John Swope; and three siblings, Betty Brown, Sheldon Palmer and Bobby Palmer.
A celebration of life will be held at the family’s convenience.
