Stephen Carter Washburn

Stephen Carter Washburn, 68, of New Cumberland, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 10, 2025, with his family by his side. He was the son of the late Nathan “Tom” Thompson Washburn and Barbara (Turner) Washburn, born on August 11, 1956, in Harrisburg, PA.

Steve grew up in South Central PA, attending New Oxford High School before eventually graduating from York Country Day School. He then attended Brandywine College where he landed a job as a DJ on the college’s radio station. After college, he became an EMT while also convincing Gene Latta to allow him to become a salesman at their Ford Dealership in Hanover, PA. It was this job that gave Steve his knack for sales over the span of his career. In the early days, he worked in the petroleum Industry for Bennett Pump Company. In the early 1990s, he shifted industries, leading a sales team at Daisy Data Displays, where he sold industrial computers and workstations. In 2007, he stepped away from having a boss and joined his wife, Cindy, running the day-to-day operations at their mutual love, Oxford Hall Celtic Shop and Café in New Cumberland. This year marks the shop’s 40th year in business. 

Steve was a lifetime member of the New Oxford fire company. He was a Boy Scout, achieving Order of Arrow status, a Freemason, and a member of the New Cumberland Business & Professional Group and the North American Celtic Trade Association. He was an American muscle car collector and enthusiast with a knack for diagnosing car problems by listening to the noises they made while running. Steve never achieved his lifelong dream of growing old and driving one of those little Shriners’ cars, but his family finds comfort knowing he’s at peace. He will be especially missed by his two loyal and loving cats, Maize and Benny. Above all, he was the most caring husband and father.

Surviving is his wife of 47 years, Cindy Washburn; sons, Michael Washburn (Lana) of Camp Hill and Seth Washburn (Kylee) of New Cumberland; grandchildren, Keegan Finnerty and Eve Washburn; a sister, Jane Washburn; and brother, Tom Washburn (Melanie); several nieces and nephews and a large extended family.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
