Susan Ann Kelly, 62, of Harrisburg, passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2022 at her residence. Born on December 29, 1960 in Cincinnati, OH, to Madeleine (Sussingham) Hall and the late Kenneth Hall, the family would relocate to Long Island, NY, in her youth.
Sue grew up in Suffolk County, NY, graduating from Brentwood High School (’78) before enrolling at Indiana University of PA, where she earned a BS in Nutrition and Dietetics. While at IUP, she would meet an upperclassman named Gary; the two would date throughout college, and wedding vows were exchanged just a few short months following Sue’s graduation (’82). The pair would start a family in the Harrisburg area, with the first of three boys arriving in 1984. Throughout the kids’ youth, Sue was employed at Carlisle Hospital as a dietetic technician, but this wouldn’t stop her from being a dedicated and supportive mother and wife.
When the kids were grown, Sue and Gary would move to Virginia Beach, VA, starting a new chapter in life. Sue began her own residential cleaning business in Virginia Beach, becoming owner/operator of “Maid in America.” She and Gary were also active with Beach Fellowship Church of Virginia Beach, taking part in bible studies and numerous volunteer opportunities; and for roughly eight years, the couple enjoyed taking turns hosting the “New Beginnings” life group from their home. After 13 years in Virginia Beach, they packed up and moved back to the Harrisburg area to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Throughout her life, Sue was a loving and nurturing mother with just the right amount of “no-nonsense” to keep her three boys in line. She taught her sons the importance of being self-sufficient, while at the same time providing for them and exercising patience. She was a die-hard sports fan and enjoyed watching a game with her family in the evening. She loved dogs, and the family had several throughout the years – all female – since she had to put up with a house full of guys. These “guys” in her life will miss her tremendously, as will anyone fortunate enough to have met her along her earthly journey.
Surviving Sue is her husband and best friend of 40 years, Gary L. Kelly; her children, Ryan Kelly (Felicia) of Linglestown, Jason Kelly (Malerie) of York, and Ethan Kelly (Thomas Bartolomeo) of Franklin, TN; grandchildren, Anya and Everleigh, and Bennett and Carson; her mother, Madeleine (Sussingham) Hall of Englewood, FL; two siblings, Ronnie McKnight (Brian) of Englewood, FL, and Jimmy Hall (Liz) of Long Island, NY; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon Kelly (Sherry Conway) of Harrisburg, and Craig Kelly (Carole) of Dover; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
A private Celebration of Life will be held in late May of 2023.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Sue’s name to The MSA Coalition at www.multiplesystematrophy.org. Multiple System Atrophy is a degenerative neurological disorder which presents symptoms similar to those living with Parkinson’s disease. Sue’s family is hopeful that donated funds will go to awareness and possible treatments for MSA.
