Susan D. Thompson

Susan D. Thompson, 90, formerly of New Cumberland, left this world for the arms of the Lord on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Capital Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, Harrisburg. Born and raised in Mifflin County, she was the daughter of the late James and Bertha (Knox) Ryan.

Susie was blessed with a beautiful angelic voice, singing in musicals, community events, at her church, and for events such as weddings from a young age. A 1952 graduate of Lewistown High School, Susie always had a soft spot for her hometown, and she was especially proud that her father was the Lewistown Police Chief. In addition to her vocal talents, she was also a skilled pianist with a great sense of humor.

Susie took pride in raising her children and keeping a beautiful home. She participated in the Red Land Women’s Club and was very active in the Red Land High School Band Boosters. She and her late husband, Giff, were longtime members of Baughman Church, New Cumberland where Susie often sang in the choir and supported fund-raising activities for the church. They were the epitome of a loving couple and best friends, setting a beautiful example for their children and grandchildren. Traveling together and going on camping trips were two of their favorite pastimes, and there was no denying Susie’s love for the beach. Family was always first and foremost, and nothing made her happier than having her whole gang together. Her family is comforted in knowing that she’s reunited with the love of her life.

Surviving are her children, Gifford W. Thompson III (wife, Beth) of Harrisburg, Pamela Ellsesser (husband, Jerry) of Harrisburg and Timothy Thompson (wife, Marnie) of Hamburg, NY; 7 loving grandchildren, Nicky, Candy, Justin, Corey, Jeff, Bailey and Reilly; 2 great-grandchildren, Emma and Luke; a sister, Annette Valdespino (husband, Kenneth) of West Palm Beach, FL; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gifford W. Thompson Jr.; as well as 4 sisters and 3 brothers.

A funeral service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. A viewing will take place from 10AM until services begin in the funeral home. Entombment will immediately follow in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill.
