Suzanne I. Welch

Suzanne I. Welch, 64, of New Cumberland, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 24, 2025, in her home. She was the daughter of the late Ear. W. and Louise I. (Stetler) Dreher, born on October 15, 1960, in Carlisle.

Moving to the borough of New Cumberland at an early age, Sue would remain in the area all her life. She was a 1978 graduate of Cedar Cliff High School, Camp Hill, and would go on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse through the Steelton/Highspire program. Shortly after high school, she married Sam, with the two approaching their 45th wedding anniversary this September.

She started her nursing career at Leaders Nursing Center, Camp Hill, and would move from there to Susquehanna Center, Harrisburg. The following 13 years were spent at a local pediatrician’s office—Dr. Naresh S. Mainji in Harrisburg. She was also a former auxiliary member of New Cumberland’s VFW Post 7415 and Legion Post 143.

She and Sam enjoyed racing and visiting local tracks, especially Silver Spring Speedway, and they would pass this love to their daughter, Ashley. Sue had a great sense of humor and was loyal to each of her cherished friends. She was gentle and loving and enjoyed cross stitching in the peace and quiet with her beloved cats. But look out if you crossed her family, or especially her daughter, as she had a ferocious “Mama Bear” deep within. She made those around her better, and supported her husband, daughter, and anyone in need even during the most difficult of times.

Surviving Sue is her loving husband and best friend, Samuel M. Welch; her daughter, Ashley J. Welch (Brittany); brother, Alan L. Dreher (Karen); a nephew, Mark Dreher; and many cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Craig E. Dreher.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
