Sybyl J. (Hoffmeier) Gher

Sibyl June (Hoffmeier) Gher, 82, of Fairview Township, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Pinnacle Health Harrisburg Hospital.
She was born on January 26, 1933 in Lancaster to the late George K. Hoffmeier and Mary (Kreider) Hoffmeier.
She was a 1950 graduate of the former New Cumberland High School and was previously employed by the former Bell Telephone Co. of PA. Sibyl retired from Family Physician Associates, New Cumberland in 1998 after 23 years as a medical assistant and continued working there part time for another 15 years.
Sibyl was baptized in St. John’s Episcopal Church, Lancaster and was confirmed in Mt. Calvary Episcopal Church, Camp Hill. She was a Red Cross swimming instructor in high school, a Cub Scout den mother as an adult, enjoyed reading, old Country music from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, drawing and writing. She wrote a children’s book, “Matilda Mantis Becoming Extinct!” after retiring. Sibyl also enjoyed bus trips with her husband; especially to Nashville and New England. In addition, she took pleasure in attending local theater productions.
She enjoyed outings with her family. Those were special times. Her family members were her greatest joy whom she dearly loved. Her husband, Richard C. Gher was her high school sweetheart. They were married June 27, 1953 in St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Harrisburg before he left for the Korean War.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Diane J. Kreamer (Jeff) of Carlisle and Cheryl A. “Cheri” Gher of New Cumberland; a son, Richard S. Gher (Renee) of East Petersburg; two grandchildren, Crystal J. Kreamer of Pittsburgh and 2LT Kyle R. Kreamer (PA ANG) of Carlisle; a brother, Herbert K. Hoffmeier (Gloria) of New Cumberland.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday at Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland. Viewing will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Lower Allen Twp.
