Terence J. Flanagan, 97, of Camp Hill died peacefully Monday February 1, 2016 at his home.
He was a veteran World War II and was Honorably discharged as a Staff Sargent after serving in Pacific area. He was on the First airplane to arrive in Japan, August 1945, after transferring into the Third Military Railroad Division. Five days prior to signing end of war With Japan on the USS Missouri.
He was a retired freight engine man from Conrail Railroad for 40 years and in his last years, ran the Broadway Limited Passenger Train to NYC. He always had a thirst for knowledge; in retirement he explored other cultures and traveled abroad, spent many hours volunteering to help others, and was a courier for the former CCNB Bank. He also gave of his time at the VFW Post 1213, Rutherford.
He was a member of St. Theresa Parish, New Cumberland and faithfully served as Usher for Sunday masses and weekly Bingo. Cafeteria staff could always count on him to finish up any leftover sweets..
He was born January 23, 1919 in Columbia to the late Eugene J. and Agnes M. (Shillow) Flanagan. He was the husband of Verna Flanagan (late wife) of 42 years and father to their six children: Terence, Thomas, Gregory, and Brian; two daughters, Kathleen and Constance; twelve grandchildren; a great-grandchild and one more on the way in July 2016 (Ben and Amanda Flanagan).
He is also a survived widower of Shirley E. (Willis) Flanagan after a beautiful 20+ years.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30am Friday at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am Friday at St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland. Private committal will follow in Rolling Green Cemetery, Lower Allen Twp.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1300 Bridge Street, New Cumberland, PA 17070.
