The Rev. Eber B. Dourte, 94, of Dillsburg died Sunday, November 8, 2015, in his home.
He was a retired pastor in the Brethren in Christ Church. He graduated in 1940 from Messiah Junior College, 1942 from Elizabethtown College, and 1963 from American Baptist Seminary, West Covina, CA. A conscientious objector during World War II, he served four-and-a-half years in Civilian Public Service. He served the congregations of Hollowell (Waynesboro, PA) for fourteen years, Upland (CA) for nine years and Lancaster (PA) for twelve years. A handy builder, he also oversaw major building expansion in each of the congregations. In retirement he enjoyed helping friends with carpentry and remodeling projects.
He was born February 27, 1921, in Manheim to the late Monroe S. and Susie G. (Brubaker) Dourte. He was the widower of Ruth Myers Dourte and was also preceded in death by sisters Ruth Musser, Mary Martin, and Grace Wolgemuth and brother Allon B.
He is survived by a son, Ray M. Dourte of Dillsburg; two daughters, Esther D. Spurrier and Faithe E. Spurrier both of Dillsburg; two brothers, Jesse B. of Manheim and Victor B. of Sun City, AZ; a sister, Esther Snyder of Mechanisburg; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 21, at 10:30am in the Dillsburg Brethren in Christ Church, 18 E. Harrisburg Street, Dillsburg. Family will greet visitors before the service.
