Thomas Felix Long, 88, of Silver Spring Twp., Mechanicsburg, died Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Homeland Center, Harrisburg.
He was born on September 30, 1931, in Benton County, AR, the son of the late Felix (Kansas) and Lila Shelton Long (Colorado).
Tom went to elementary school in Huntsville, Madison County, AR. He was a graduate of Wheaton High School, Wheaton, MO. Upon graduation from high school, he was drafted by the U.S. Navy and sent to the Great Lakes Training Station in MI. He was assigned to the U.S.S. Barton DD-722 in Norfolk, VA. During the Korean War, his ship was struck by a mine and had to be repaired and placed into drydock in Japan. President Eisenhower sent those men that survived on a world cruise. He was then sent to Cuba and upon his discharge in Florida, he entered the University of Texas. He graduated with a degree in Business/Accounting and a minor in Computers.
He was married to Alice Ann Stafford and they had a son, Thomas Christopher and a daughter, Lori Ann. They resided in Dallas, TX before moving to Pennsylvania. Tom began AAA Accounting in Hershey and Camp Hill. In 1990, he married Alice Susan Buffington and adopted her daughter, Alicia Susan Buffington. He was preceded in death by two half-brothers, Herview and Verne Milsap, and a sister, Mary Esther Long.
Tom is survived by his wife, Alice Susan Long; a daughter, Alicia S. Miller (son-in-law Timothy J.) of Falmouth, MA; two grandchildren, Henry R. and Maxwell D. Miller, also of Falmouth, MA.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family.
