Thomas (“Tom”) Irwin Dutton, 63, of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. He was born on November 6, 1958, at Fort Sam Houston Army Base in San Antonio, TX, and was the son of the late Major (Ret) Calvin P. and Helen A. (Osburn) Dutton.
Tom was a 1976 graduate of Cedar Cliff High School, Camp Hill, PA, and a member of the Shiremanstown First Church of God. He was most recently employed as a Billing Specialist with Quanta Telecommunication Services, headquartered in Houston, TX. Early in his career, Tom worked for both the New Cumberland Federal Credit Union (NCFCU) and the Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union (PSECU), Harrisburg, PA. He also served for a time as Treasurer at the Mechanicsburg Club.
Tom was a talented musician, and he was in his element when sitting behind a drum set drumming the hours away. He was a lover of music (rock on, Tom!), enjoyed backroad drives in his convertible, and adored his pets which he affectionately referred to as his “critters.” In his spare time, you could find Tom watching professional soccer (go Manchester!), old TV shows and movies and -- in keeping with his sense of humor -- his personal favorite, “Mystery Science Theatre.”
Surviving Tom are his siblings and their families: Calvin P. (Sharon) Dutton, Jr. of Mechanicsburg; Laurie R. (Doug) Engle (Spidle) of New Cumberland; Marsha B. Dutton of Mechanicsburg; and his former wife Brenda (Temple) Dutton of Carlisle.
A memorial service will be held at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at Shiremanstown First Church of God, 35 S. Locust St., Shiremanstown, PA 17011 (light refreshments following). The family respectfully encourages those who have not been vaccinated to please wear a mask in consideration of everyone who may be in attendance.
Sincere thanks to all who prayed for and supported Tom and our family throughout his year long battle with lung cancer; and special appreciation and gratitude to all the staff at Penn State Cancer Institute, Hershey Medical Center Main Hospital, Hospice of Central PA, Bayada Home Health Care, and ambulance/EMT staff of New Cumberland River Rescue and Penn State Health Life Lion. We knew, and HE knew, he was in good hands physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Tom’s name to either: Penn State Cancer Institute, Office of University Development, 1249 Cocoa Avenue, Suite 115, PO Box 852, Hershey, PA 17033 (make checks payable to Penn State University), or to the Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice Residence, HCP Main Office, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
