Thomas L. Jeffers

Thomas L. Jeffers, 75, of Harrisburg, passed away Friday, October 9, 2015 in Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Lower Paxton Twp.

Tom, a pioneer in the provision of community-based juvenile justice services, established one of America’s first organizations dedicated to family centered interventions and advocacy for delinquent youth in 1975. Tom was the founder and Chairman Emeritus of Youth Advocate Programs, Inc., (YAP) based in Harrisburg PA. YAP now serves 18 states in the United States and supports international efforts in Ireland, Guatemala and Sierra Leone. Tom earned a Master’s Degree in Education from the Ohio State University and was an avid tennis player.

Tom was born in St. Paul, MN to the late Orison and Mildred (MacKay) Jeffers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Kurt Jeffers.

He is survived by his wife M. Minette Bauer; children, Ian Jeffers and wife Holly HauxJeffers of Burlington, VT, Ellie Ward and husband Kevin of Needham, MA and Colin Bauer Jeffers; siblings, Lawrence Jeffers of Exton, PA and Claire Saizon of Greenville, SC; six grandchildren, Sean, Anna, Mae, Ella, Lucy and Owen; and several nieces and a nephew.

Visitation with family will be held on Friday October 23, 2015 at Grace United Methodist Church, 216 State Street, Harrisburg PA from noon to 2:00 PM and will be followed by a memorial service at 2:00. Private committal services will be held at the convenience of the family.
