Viola A. Leik, 87, of New Cumberland, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill. Daughter of the late Jose M. and Javiera (Curiel) Alvarez, she was born on February 15, 1931 in Moca, Dominican Republic.
Viola completed a doctorate degree in pharmacy at Santo Domingo University; shortly thereafter, she moved to the United States and became a naturalized citizen. She worked for ten years in the chemistry department at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Lancaster. Upon marriage, she moved to New Cumberland with her husband and began working in the ESL Program at Harrisburg School District; she retired from there after twenty-two years. She was a longtime member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland, and she was the last of nine children in her generation.
Viola was a joy in the life of everyone who knew her, especially her surviving husband, Ronald M. Leik, and son, Ronald B. Leik, of Lancaster. She also leaves behind many nephews and nieces, both in the United States and Dominican Republic.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1PM on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland.
