Violet Mae Radel

July 26, 1942 — January 27, 2025

Camp Hill, PA

Violet Mae Radel, 82, of Camp Hill, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025, at UPMC Community Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg. She was the daughter of the late Harrison H. and Helen (Minnich) Weaver, born on July 26, 1942, in Tower City.

Violet was independent and a hard worker all her life. She would spend her entire 30+ year career as a machine operator with Quaker Oats, Shiremanstown, until her retirement. Being with her children or talking with them on the phone brightened her day, and she was fortunate enough to find a wonderful companion and partner, Bill, in the latter years of life. She and Bill enjoyed a stretch of years where they’d spend their winters in Florida, and in her free time, Violet found peace in cross stitching and reading. She was an animal lover and was particular fond of cats, having one or more at any given time throughout life. She was feisty with a fun sense of humor, and her candor left you knowing exactly where she stood on any given topic. She will be missed.

Surviving Violet are her children, Richard M. Radel, Jr., of Harrisburg and Samantha L. Radel of Siler City, NC; and her longtime partner, Wilbur “Bill” Chappell of Camp Hill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Delores Orris.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Violet’s name to the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, 7790 Grayson Road, Harrisburg, PA 17111.
