Walter B. Altoff, 71, of Lewisberry, PA, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center, Camp Hill. He was the son of the late Charles E. and Emma A. (Colburn) Altoff, born on August 18, 1953, in Harrisburg.
Walter was a 1972 graduate of Cumberland Valley High School, Mechanicsburg. Upon graduation, he immediately inlisted in Pennsylvania’s Air National Guard. He had a couple different jobs before settling into a position with Giant Food Stores as a truck driver. After retirement, he went on to become a shuttle driver for residents of Messiah Lifeways, Mechanicsburg—a job he thoroughly enjoyed.
He was friendly and easy to talk to, and in his spare time, you could find Walter tinkering in his garage or taking a ride on his trike motorcycle. He was a longtime member of the Lower Allen VFW Post 7530 – Kimberly Ann Fahnestock-Voelz Memorial, and when his wife was living, the two enjoyed going on camping trips in their RV.
Surviving Walter is his brother, Charles E. Altoff Jr. of Mechanicsburg; five nieces, Angela Evans of Dillsburg, Dawn Yeager of Enola, Dori Dorritie of Newport, Christine Brady of New Cumberland, and Diana Gopear of Lewisberry; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie L. (Eisenhauer) Altoff; and sisters, Emily Kimball and Charlene Himelsbach.
A small celebration with family and close friends will be held in the future. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, will be Walter’s final resting place
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Walter’s name to VFW Post 7530, 4545 Westport Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
