Walter Huntt French Jr.

March 26, 1928 — January 9, 2021

Walter Huntt French, Jr., 92, of the Woods at Cedar Run, Lower Allen Twp. and formerly of New Cumberland, died Saturday, January 9, 2021, at UPMC Pinnacle West Shore, Hampden Twp.

He was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, and was an officer in the US Navy for twenty years. He last served as Director of Inventory Control for the former Navy Supply Depot, Hampden Twp. Following his career in the Navy, he was the Director of Buildings and Properties, Diocese of Harrisburg; he was a veteran of the Korean War, earned the China Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, among others. He was a long- time member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland. Born in Zanesville, OH on March 26, 1928, he was the son of the late Walter H. Sr. and F. Bonita (McCarthy) French.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Betty Jane French; sons and daughters, Thomas A. French (Rosemary) of Mechanicsburg, Robert J. French of New Cumberland, Mary E. Knapik (John) of Elizabethville, F. Patrick French (Cornelia) of Laurel, MD, Walter H. French III of Coronado, CA, Timothy M. French of Cary, NC, Christopher S. French (Sharon) of Mechanicsburg, Catherine T. Brestensky (Charles) of Harrisburg, and John G. French of New Cumberland; two brothers, James J. of Sierra Vista, AZ, and J. Thomas of Zanesville, OH; and twelve grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 AM at St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland, with the Rev. William Barbee as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Upper Allen Twp.
