Walter N. (Walt) Peechatka, 80, of Lower Allen Township, died Saturday, October 19, 2019 of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis at Temple University Hospital Medical Center, Philadelphia. He retired as the C.E.O. of PennAg Industries Association, Harrisburg and was formerly the Deputy Secretary of Agriculture, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and a Lobbyist and Governmental Affairs Consultant for Versant Strategies, Harrisburg.
Born in East Stroudsburg, PA, he was the son of the late Walter C. and Lillian M. (Post) Peechatka. A proud graduate of Pocono Mountain High School and the Pennsylvania State University, Walt also served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963 after graduating from Penn State.
Walt had a distinguished professional career and served on the Penn State Board of Trustees from 2002 through 2008, the Board for Agricultural Law Resource and Reference Center at The Dickinson School of Law and was a member of the Department of Conservation and National Resources Advisory Council from 2007 until the present. He was also a Distinguished Alumnus in the Field of Agriculture from Penn State Mt. Alto.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 51 years, Bonnie L. (Umholtz) Peechatka; two sons, Troy W., of New Cumberland, and Trent D. (Pamela) of Harrisburg; a sister, Beverly A. Youngken of Huntsville, Al; a grandson, Adam D. Peechatka.
Walt was a devoted husband, a loving and attentive father, a doting grandfather, and was respected by those that knew him as a humble man of strong character and integrity.
Visitation will be held from 10 – 11 AM on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019, at Messiah Lutheran Church, Harrisburg, with a memorial service immediately following the visitation.
Burial will be at 12:30 PM on Monday, November 4, 2019 in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Twp.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Peechatka Award Scholarship in the Penn State College of Agriculture Sciences, Office of Development, 240 Agricultural Administration Building, University Park, PA 16802, or to Messiah Lutheran Church, 901 N. 6th St., Harrisburg, PA 17102.
