Walter Shaull Holder

WALTER SHAULL HOLDER, 69, of Mechanicsburg, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 25, 2019 at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center, Derry Twp.

Walt was born February 5, 1950 in Harrisburg, PA to the late George Hughes and Mary Katherine (Shaull) Holder.

He is survived by his wife of more than 27 years, Kathleen M. (Risser) Holder; daughters, Mary E. Schell and husband David of Enola, Amy St. Germain of Enola; siblings, George Holder and wife Carol of Mechanicsburg, Mary Theresa (Missy) Holtzman and husband Thomas of Camp Hill, Thomas Holder and wife Robyn of Camp Hill, Maureen Ryan and husband Thomas of Mechanicsburg, Mariclare Lombard and husband Gary of Houston, TX, Mary Christine Holder of New York, NY and Mary Katherine Holder of Alexandria, VA; six grandchildren, Julian, Benjamin, Madison, Marissa, Isaiah and Mya; and many nieces and nephews.

Walt was Vice President of Production with the Hershey Creamery Company, Harrisburg. He was a graduate of Trinity High School, Camp Hill, Class of 1968 and Mt. St. Mary's University, Emmitsburg, MD, Class of 1972. Walt was a previous Chairman and long-time member of Keystone Ice Cream Association. He was a member of the Cathedral Parish of St. Patrick, Harrisburg, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Frankford, DE, and the Mechanicsburg Club.

He was a gentle soul who loved life; especially his loving wife, family and friends. He touched many lives who felt his soft spoken, loyal presence and smile, along with his wry sense of humor. He was an avid supporter of The Mount which he cherished and visited frequently. He also loved taking trips with family and friends to Nascar Races, golfing, and sitting on the porch at Bethany Beach.

Walt was incredibly grateful for the time and talents given by the Creamery employees over all the years. He often expressed that without their dedication and commitment, the Creamery would never have stood the test of time, let alone be the incredible success it is today.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon on Friday, March 29, 2019 in St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1300 Bridge Street, New Cumberland, PA with the Rev. J. Michael McFadden as Celebrant. Viewing will be from 9:30 - 11:30 am Friday in Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. A private burial and committal service will be held in Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery, Emmitsburg, MD.
