Wayne G. Doyle, 100, of New Cumberland, PA died peacefully on January 29, 2016 at the Lebanon VA Medical Center, Lebanon, PA. He was born December 22, 1915 in Shippensburg, PA and was the son of the late Daniel B. Doyle and the late Mary E. (Stong) Doyle.
He graduated from Lemoyne High School in 1933 and retired from the New Cumberland PA Post Office in 1982. He was an Army veteran of WWII and served with the 1st Infantry Division in Europe from Normandy, France to Hof, Germany. He was the recipient of the bronze star and 5 battle stars.
He loved the outdoors, was an avid fisherman, and also took his beloved wife and children on many trips throughout the U.S. and Canada. He and wife Dolores traveled to every continental state, as well as to Puerto Rico and St. Thomas, and also visited various countries in Europe with ex-1st Division members to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Normandy D-Day Invasion.
He was a member of the Wyndamere Heights Evangelical Congregational Church, the Society of the 1st Infantry Division, life member of West Shore Disabled Veterans Post #50, life member of Mechanicsburg VFW Post #6704, 50-year member of Lowther Manor Masonic Lodge #781, and a member of the Marysville Sportsmen’s Association.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dolores; brother Clair of Tulsa, Oklahoma; brother John of Lemoyne, PA; and sister Virginia Hummel of Camp Hill, PA.
He is survived by brother Robert Doyle of Gulf Shores, Alabama, and four daughters: Shirley A. Engle of Camp Hill, PA; Joan D. Ulrich of York, PA; Bonnie G. Doyle of Dorado, Puerto Rico; and Gale S. Burton of Enola, PA, along with seven grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 10am until funeral services at 11am Thursday at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland. Masonic Services will be held at 10:30am. Burial will follow in Rolling Green Cemetery, Lower Allen Twp.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wyndamere Heights Evangelical Congregational Church, 736 Wyndamere Road, PO Box 268, Lewisberry PA 17339.
