Wilma J. Kennedy, 86, of New Cumberland, died on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Geisinger Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill. Daughter of the late Vaughn and Gertrude (Allyn) Jones, she was born in LeRaysville, PA on January 11, 1932.
Wilma retired as a teacher from Central Dauphin High School, Harrisburg, and also worked for many years as a legal secretary for McNees Wallace & Nurick Attorneys, Harrisburg. She was a member of Baughman Memorial United Methodist Church (New Cumberland), PA Assoc. of School Retirees, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Harrisburg Study Club. For many years, Wilma was a strong presence in the American Assoc. of University Women (AAUW) – Harrisburg Branch, having served as both branch president and state secretary; she was also named a Grant Honoree twice and was voted Outstanding Branch Member. She also served on the Bethany Village Auxiliary board.
Wilma was a very avid reader, crossword and Sudoku enthusiast, as well as a lover of life. She had many friends and neighbors and was always ready for her next adventure. She was well known for her love of sports and attending her children’s/grandchildren’s games, shows or matches. Wilma was a very well dressed, classy woman who enjoyed all aspects of her existence.
Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Kennedy; and their son, Stephen J. Kennedy. Surviving are a son and his wife, Scott A. and Pamela A. Kennedy of Dayton, NV; a daughter and her husband, Pamela K. and John M. Schaffner, of New Cumberland; eight grandchildren, Nico, Cole, Payton, and Kennedy Schaffner, all of New Cumberland; Leah Kennedy, of Paris, France; Erin Kennedy, of FL; and Charles and Demetria Kennedy, both of Camp Hill; two great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a brother and his wife, Allyn and Kay Jones, of Culver Lake, NJ.
A visitation will be held from 2-3PM on Friday, July 6, at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland, with a funeral service immediately following. A graveside service will take place at 1PM on Saturday, July 7, at Neath Cemetery in LeRaysville, Bradford County, PA.
